Volunteering – March

The name of the month of March in Valencia should be changed to Fallas. The money, the organization, the energy it goes in preparing this festival here is inspiring.

Luckily for us there were also night trains so we could stay in Valencia longer. The food, the drinks, the music, the people, … yes, it was like being in a summer festival (minus the warm weather).

It was nice to see the Fallas in the museum and being able to vote for the winner aswell as to get to know some history behind it. It surprised me how many people, all ages are still taking part in this tradition.

The other thing that surprised me was the protest for the Women’s day. Once again you could see people from all ages participating and how well people organized themselves.

The holidays and the opporutnity to come together made me think of how much i miss this in my country. When I was little we gathered quite often to celebrate or sociolize with people in my village. Now we don’t do this anymore. Altough I am coming from a small village of approximately 50 people I feel like I don’t know anyone anymore. It was so warming seeing people gather to celebrate and recognize the importance of staying connected even if its through gathering for political reasons. At least this is what I was thinking while being part of Las Fallas and protest.
