April in Valencia: a month of culture, connection and creativity.
My third month in Valencia has been filled with creativity, culture, and meaningful connections. While the Natural Science Museum is still closed for renovations, this has given me the chance to explore other enriching activities that have helped me grow both personally and professionally.
Together with two other volunteers, I visited the Castle of Xàtiva, a historic fortress perched on a hill with breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. Walking through its ancient walls, we learned about the many civilizations that shaped its history. It was a perfect blend of nature, architecture, and historical depth.

I also took part in a guided tour of Valencia organized by the local association La Gente Joven. We explored some of the city’s most iconic spots and discovered hidden corners rich with stories and charm. The tour ended with a traditional horchata enjoyed together with all the young participants – a sweet and refreshing way to wrap up a day of shared experiences and new friendships.

One of the highlights of this month was attending a workshop at the Almudín Museum titled “Art, Fashion and Ecology”, led by renowned Dutch artist Claudy Jongstra. Known for her sustainable approach to art and fashion, Jongstra uses natural materials and traditional techniques to promote ecological awareness. The workshop offered deep insights into the intersection of creativity and sustainability, sparking important reflections on how art can influence our relationship with the environment.

Another special moment was helping organize the opening of the exhibition “El Prado en las calles” in the Jardines de Viveros. This outdoor exhibit features life-size reproductions of some of the most iconic works from Madrid’s Prado Museum, making art accessible to everyone in a public and open space. The inauguration was a beautiful celebration of classical art in the heart of nature, and I was proud to be part of the team bringing it to life.

Alongside these events, I’ve continued supporting the museum team with tasks like helping to design the new website and reorganize the exhibition spaces. These behind-the-scenes experiences are giving me valuable insight into museum work and cultural communication.
Valencia keeps surprising me with its energy, beauty, and cultural richness. Each day brings something new, and I’m looking forward to everything the coming months will bring in this unforgettable experience.
