June in Valencia: new beginnings, familiar flavors, and birthday celebrations

June marked a turning point in my volunteering experience here in Valencia. I began a new role at La Lonja de la Seda, the city’s most visited monument and a UNESCO World Heritage site. After spending months in the peaceful environment of the Natural Science Museum, this was a big change — La Lonja is always buzzing with visitors, especially from Italy!

My main task has been to welcome guests and provide them with information about this beautiful historical building. I really enjoy being in direct contact with people and sharing the story of such a unique place. I was also happy to meet the local staff — the team is incredibly friendly, and some of them have even become part of my social life outside of work.

June was also my birthday month, and I wanted to celebrate it in true Italian style. I prepared a little aperitivo all’italiana, with typical snacks and drinks, and shared this special moment with the people around me. It felt like a warm hug from home.

Speaking of home, this month I was really missing Italian food — so I went on a mission and finally found a place in Valencia that serves authentic Neapolitan pizza. It turned into a delicious weekend treat that made me feel a little closer to Italy.

To top off the month, a friend from Italy came to visit me, and we got to experience one of Valencia’s most magical events together: the Night of San Juan at Malvarrosa beach. Surrounded by bonfires, music, and celebration, we welcomed the summer in the most unforgettable way.

June was a month of new energy, emotional connections, and meaningful milestones. Every change — big or small — is teaching me something, and I feel incredibly grateful for this adventure.
