June in Puerto

This was the month that officially ended all of the activities, we had an emotional goodbye with our teenagers, I wasn’t expecting it, but they even prepared a special surprise for me to thank me for my time with them, I won’t talk largely about it because I’d get emotional over it once again, I’ll just say that it was one of the best achievements in my professional development. Shortly after we had to get back to work immediately to prepare the summer school. The staff got fully back and the organisation began. We got divided into pairs and each couple had to make a schedule, I got paired up with a new colleague and our goal was to prepare the big games that would take place each Friday of the summer school.

The theme of the Escola d’Estiu was space so we looked for and made up games that had that as the background theme. The idea was to take a journey starting from Earth and then exploring the moon, the solar system, the outer space and then go back to our planet. Each week had a different mission and each mission had different workshops, crafts, costumes and stories dedicated to it. It was a huge group effort organising all of it, but it turned out really successful, in my opinion.

One of my favourite parts of the month outside of work was going to the València pride manifestation, I always enjoy participating in these kinds of events, especially in big cities. Although the crowd was huge, the atmosphere made me feel safe either way, it was an excellent time to celebrate while also reflecting on the past and current struggles that affect the LGBTQIA+ community.

The last week of the month we had the last lluna plena, this was the officially last event. We organised a beach volley tournament, prepared a few workshops, had a corner with non alcoholic mojitos and an LGBTQIA+ space where we made pins and keychains.

Overall it was another fun and exciting month, but knowing that my project ends next month makes me feel all kinds of emotions, not all of them are good, but I guess it’s normal.
